ISTE Redesigns Seal of Alignment to Recognize Excellence Among Edtech Products and Platforms
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), a nonprofit focusing on accelerating innovation in education, announced the redesign of the ISTE Seal. With this redesign, the ISTE Seal examines solutions not only against ISTE Standards, but it also evaluates the technical and pedagogical usability to ensure products and platforms are educator-ready while also incorporating research that reflects the advances in learning sciences. The redesigned Seal allows for a wider range of edtech product evaluations to include assessment tools, curriculum, learning platforms and professional development solutions.
“The Seal will help distinguish products that are both effective for learning and usable for educators,” said Richard Culatta, CEO of ISTE. “We are excited to be continuing our work to help improve the quality and impact of educational products for students around the world.”
“Undergoing the Seal evaluation is an inherently valuable process. As an edtech product, we are constantly iterating and improving based on our research and customer feedback,” said Gina Ricker, director of K-12 research at EVERFI. “The Seal provides another clear and reliable way to calibrate our priorities for improvement to ensure we are keeping pace and maintaining our high quality to best support educators and learners with our products in the digital age.”
Andreas Tsouchlaris, vice president of research and development at Binary Logic, had positive remarks about the certification process, stating, “Participating in the new ISTE Seal certification process was a transformative learning experience, pushing us to critically evaluate and strengthen the educational value of our curriculum proposition. I highly recommend that other curriculum providers participate in this process as it provides valuable insights and opportunities in enhancing their offerings.”
ISTE aims to have companies that produce edtech platforms, K-12 technology-based curriculum solutions, assessment tools and professional development solutions apply for the Seal. The ISTE Seal is recognized by a wide range of roles in K-12, from K-12 CAOs and other district leaders, along with school leaders and technology coaches who trust the Seal as a verification of high quality, evidence-backed product design.
